Board of Directors
The school is operated by Brockton Preparatory School Society, a non-profit society established for this purpose. The society is led by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.
All parents of students at Brockton are eligible for membership in Brockton Preparatory School Society, subject to a “one member per student” rule. The society meets twice a year. There is a Fall General Meeting in November, and an Annual General Meeting in May at which the Board of Directors is elected.

Steve Eccles, Chair
Steve and his wife Maria have two sons at Brockton, and have been closely involved as parent volunteers since 2006. Steve has extensive global executive-level business experience which began in the UK and, during his 15 years in Canada, he has led the national retail investment function for HSBC, and the wealth management division at Vancity. Steve has been involved in new business start-ups, and consulted to a wide range of clients on leadership, business development, and strategic planning. In 2009, he established and now manages the Centre for CEO Leadership, a research and resource centre exclusively for CEOs, at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia. Steve has a Masters in Business Administration from Royal Roads University, and is a graduate of Leadership Vancouver.
John Fengler, Vice Chair
John and his wife Ingrid have three sons at Brockton and are among the original founding families of the school in 2004. John is a registered Professional Engineer and has worked in product development and management roles in the medical device industry for over 20 years. During that time, John has had the opportunity to assume a broad range of executive roles and has been responsible for the management of medical device R&D departments, the negotiation and management of business partnerships with major international medical device companies, and intellectual property management, competitive analysis and strategic planning. In 2007, John joined Toronto-based Novadaq Technologies Inc., to establish, staff and manage the company’s R&D and manufacturing facility in the Lower Mainland. In his current role as Vice President of R&D, John co-manages this facility which now employs 45 medical device development and production staff. John is named as an inventor on six granted patents and received his Masters of Applied Science in Engineering Physics from UBC.
Marina (Nina) Von Keyserlingk, Secretary
As one of the founding families of Brockton, Nina and her husband Nick and their two sons, Alexander and Reas, have all been members of the Brockton community since 2004. Nina is a Professor and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Chair in Animal Welfare in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where she and her students undertake research that focuses on improving the lives of animals. She teaches at both the graduate and undergraduate level at UBC and frequently gives guest lectures at other academic institutions around the world. In addition to her appointment at UBC, she also holds adjunct Professor status at the Universities of Calgary, Guelph and Southern Chile (Astral). In 2008, she was awarded the Killam Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Excellence in Teaching Award from the North American Colleges of Agriculture.
Paula Rogers, Treasurer
Paula has been a member of the Brockton Board since 2010 and Treasurer beginning in 2011. Paula and her husband James have two daughters at Brockton. Paula is a Chartered Accountant with over 15 years experience working for Canadian-based international public companies in the areas of treasury operations, tax planning and compliance, mergers and acquisitions and financial reporting. Paula is currently the CFO of TSXV-listed Castle Peak Mining Ltd. Paula is also a Director and Audit Committee Chair for TSX-listed Timmins Gold Corp. She has served as an officer of other public companies including Vice-President, Treasurer of NYSE-listed Goldcorp Inc. and Treasurer of Wheaton River Minerals Ltd. Previously, Paula worked at Finning International Inc. in various finance roles over a period of nine years. Paula holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia and completed her CA articling at Deloitte and Touche.
Jabeen Janmohamed, Director
Jabeen and her husband Moez have one daughter at Brockton and have been volunteers at the School since 2008. Jabeen has extensive experience in land use and housing planning and has been involved in the creation of affordable housing and homelessness initiatives throughout British Columbia. She has also been responsible for creating land use and growth management strategies for various areas in the Lower Mainland, including Granville Island. Jabeen has extensive experience with independent schools and was a long serving member of the York House School Board of Governors. Jabeen has a Bachelors in Political Science and a Masters in Community and Regional Planning from the University of British Columbia.
Rob McNair, Director
Rob and his wife Maurette have two sons at Brockton, and have been involved as parent volunteers since 2008. Rob’s professional background is in the travel and tourism industry, in France, the UK and now Canada. Involved at the start up of Euro Disney in Paris for two years, he then worked for Eurostar, the high speed train service between London and Paris, for thirteen years; the last five as part of their Senior Management team, running Eurostar’s Pricing and Revenue Management department. Since moving to Vancouver in 2006, he worked for the oneworld strategic airline alliance for five years, leading the evolution of its frequent flyer proposition. On the alliance’s move to New York in September, Rob left oneworld and is now working on a number of consulting and small business projects. Rob holds an EMBA from Simon Fraser University.
Mark Oulton, Director
Mark and his wife Teresa have been members of the Brockton community since their son, Jacob, started Kindergarten in September 2010. Their daughter Emma looks forward to joining Brockton in 2013. Mark has been a board member since 2011. Mark is litigation counsel at Hunter Litigation Chambers, a leading litigation boutique in Vancouver. Prior to joining that firm in 2004, Mark was a litigation associate for several years at McCarthy Tetrault LLP, a large national firm. Mark has experience in a diverse range of commercial matters, including cases involving breach of fiduciary obligations, shareholder and partnership disputes, breach of contract and real estate disputes. Mark also acts in a variety of forestry related matters, including stumpage appeals, contractor disputes and compensation claims against the government. Mark holds a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) from UBC (1991), a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School (1998) and his Masters in Environmental Studies from York University (1998).
Keith Fitzpatrick, Director
Keith, his wife Nathalie, and their son Nick became part of the Brockton community in September 2010. A graduate of Concordia University in Montreal, Keith brings a strong background in business development, marketing and leadership. Keith is part of the senior executive team at Asurion Canada. He also has a deep history of volunteerism, having founded a not-for-profit organization. Keith’s global business experience, ranging from Asia through to several locations across North America, has offered the cultural diversity that Keith and his family truly enjoy.
Pedro A. Cortina, Director
Pedro and his wife Tania have two sons at Brockton. Pedro’s extensive educational leadership experience includes both local and international senior executive roles in private educational organizations having served as Head of School (IB World School), University Dean and College President for most of his professional life. Additionally, his business experience includes having served as Corporate Development Director in the Oil and Gas Industry, Senior Management Consultant at the Sauder School of Business (UBC) and Senior Business Partner at the Lead Project, a leadership development consultancy firm based in North Vancouver. He holds bachelors’ degrees in economics and education as well as masters’ and doctoral (ABD) degrees in educational administration and leadership from the University of British Columbia and the University of Calgary respectively. He is a graduate of the renowned Finance Program for Senior Executives from the University of Oxford, as well as the Senior Management Development Program at UBC. Pedro embodies a profound passion for results-driven educational and organizational transformation and growth.
