Volunteer OpportunitiesOne of the goals of the BPC is to provide an opportunity for contribution, relationship building, fun and the satisfaction of working with like-minded people toward a common purpose. There are a variety of areas in which members of our school community can participate. Major EventsBROCKTON GALA The Brockton Gala is the BPC’s major fundraiser for the year and requires a great deal of planning and organization. Volunteer requirements include the event planning and production, procurement of donations and sponsorships, event marketing and closure. A wide range of responsibilities and time commitments are available to those wishing to be involved. SUMMER FEST This fun event provides an opportunity for us to give back to our wider community. The fair is held the first Sunday of June and requires several months of planning and preparation as well as the participation of all our families. A wide range of opportunities for participation are available, from weeks of planning and organization through to a shift on the day of the event. ANNUAL EVENTSWELCOME BACK BBQ The Welcome Back BBQ occurs in the first week of the school year and provides an opportunity for new and returning families to meet. Volunteers are required to assist with the planning, setup and operation of the event. The time commitment is relatively small. BOOK FAIR The Scholastic Book Fair runs every November for four days. Volunteers are required to work in shifts to help with the set up and operation of the fair. The time commitment involved is small. WINTER FEAST The Winter Feast is an annual tradition at Brockton. This fun community get-together includes a casual ‘international’ pot luck dinner and a talent show involving the entire Brockton Community - students, parents and teachers. Several volunteers are needed to coordinate the evening event. The time commitment varies depending on the number of volunteers. ONGOING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIESThere are a number of ongoing volunteer opportunities that parents can choose from to support the school. While not a complete listing, the following are some of the many volunteer opportunities available. The amount of time involved can be greater for the volunteers who head up each area. HOT LUNCH PROGRAM The hot lunch program runs every Monday and Friday from October through June. Volunteers are needed each lunch day to distribute meals to classes. The volunteer time commitment involved is relatively small. LIBRARY The school library enlists the help of volunteers who serve regular shifts throughout the year. These volunteers serve the needs of the school librarian, students and teachers. Individual volunteer time commitment can vary depending upon availability and the number of volunteers participating. UNIFORM SHOP The uniform shop is run by parent volunteers. It is open every Monday morning from 8 to 8:30am and more frequently at the start and end of each school year. The individual time commitment is relatively small. CLASS REPRESENTATIVES Each class has a class representative who assists with parent communication, coordination of parent volunteers for class related events and other activities as requested by the teacher.
